Use the full-game support instructions
This page covers the Steam full game, not the Demo. Capcom’s September 3 support guide identifies the full-game executable as OnimushaWotS.exe.
Start with these checks
The following checks are selected from that thread. Change one thing at a time so you can tell what helped.
- Compare your hardware with the published PC requirements.
- Check Windows updates and graphics drivers. Capcom lists NVIDIA 596.49 or later and AMD 26.5.1 or later. Restart after installing a driver.
- In Steam, open the game’s Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
- For unstable frame rate, try Settings → Graphics → Low and close unnecessary recording or overlay apps.
- On a dual-GPU PC, check that the game uses the high-performance GPU. For flickering or blank output, check screen mode, resolution, VSync and HDR settings.
- If stability problems continue, close recording and overlay apps, then delete shader.cache and shader.cache2 from the folder containing OnimushaWotS.exe. Skip this step if those files are not present.
- Open the executable’s Properties → Compatibility tab and make sure Compatibility Mode is disabled. Check Steam.exe as well if the game setting was already clear.
These are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes. Note your original graphics settings before changing them. If a change does not help, restore it before testing another.
If the problem persists
Capcom asks for system specifications, driver version, graphics settings, a precise description and reproduction steps. A generated crash archive may also help; the default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\OnimushaWotS\CrashReport. Use the newest ZIP created near the time of the crash.
Use the customer-support link inside the official thread. Review logs and screenshots for personal information before sharing them, and keep diagnostic archives out of public comments.
The thread also contains more invasive options. This short guide does not ask you to delete game folders, disable security software or use a third-party driver cleaner. Seek support before taking steps you cannot confidently reverse.
Patch notes and current issues
Capcom’s release notice warns that a preload may still need update data after launch. Let Steam finish pending downloads before opening the game.
As of September 7, the announcements checked for this guide did not provide a numbered full-game patch changelog. This is not a claim that no update exists. Check the official announcements for later changes; player reports alone do not establish a confirmed bug or a released fix.
The support thread contains current player crash reports, but a report is not proof of one shared cause. This page therefore does not recommend REFramework, other mods, or copied DLL files as troubleshooting fixes.
If you are playing the free Demo instead, use Demo troubleshooting. Its installation paths are different.
