Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo Guide

The free Demo covers roughly 30 minutes from the early story, introduces the core swordplay, and ends with a fight against Sasaki Ganryu. Keep the save data—but do not expect story progress to transfer.

Quick answer

The Demo is free on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC storefronts. It is a self-contained early-game slice; keep its save data to qualify for a full-game charm bonus.

Where to download the Demo

  • PlayStation 5: open the game's PlayStation page and choose the free Demo edition.
  • Xbox Series X|S / Windows: search the Microsoft Store for “Onimusha: Way of the Sword Demo.”
  • Steam: use the separate Onimusha: Way of the Sword DEMO listing (App ID 3974650).

Store availability and buttons are region-aware. If a direct link redirects, sign into the relevant store and search the exact Demo title.

What the Demo includes

Capcom describes the Demo as about 30 minutes from the opening portion of the game. The route moves through the Kiyomizu-dera Temple stage and lets Musashi face Sasaki Ganryu. It is designed to expose several systems earlier than a normal opening might.

Core defense

Parry and Deflect put timing and blade contact at the center of encounters.

Signature offense

Issen, Oni Armament, and soul absorption show how a successful defense can become momentum.

Early story slice

The Demo samples the opening path; Capcom says it differs in some respects from the full game.

Does Demo progress carry over?

No. Official Steam news says you cannot continue from Demo progress in the base game. Treat it as a practice run, not an early save for launch day.

What do you get for keeping Demo save data?

Keep the Demo save data on the platform where you plan to play. Capcom says eligible players can claim the Kubi Akari charm in the full game. The July 2 release update also says the Demo will receive a future update with no new content, and repeats that retained Demo save data will unlock a bonus.

Practical rule: do not delete the Demo save after finishing it. The published information confirms a bonus, but platform matching and claim steps should be rechecked at launch.

A useful first run

  1. Play once without chasing a perfect run. Learn the camera, movement, soul absorption, and basic defensive feedback.
  2. Replay encounters while focusing on one response at a time: first Parry, then Deflect, then a deliberate Issen attempt.
  3. Use the Ganryu encounter to read attack cues rather than to infer the final game's overall difficulty.
  4. Keep the save data and revisit the Demo after Capcom publishes its promised update.

What the Demo cannot prove

The Demo cannot establish final balance, the complete weapon roster, full-game progression, total playtime, later bosses, or exact launch performance. Capcom has explicitly said the Demo differs in some regards from the full release. Guides on this site keep that boundary visible.
