Read the attack → choose Parry, Deflect, or Dodge → create an opening → answer with Issen, a normal sequence, or an Oni-powered action → absorb released souls.
Start with intent, not button speed
Official descriptions emphasize blade-on-blade exchanges, Parry, Deflect, the signature Issen critical attack, Oni Armament, and soul absorption. The useful distinction is not “which input attacks fastest?” but “which defensive response fits the attack in front of you?”
A close defensive answer that meets an incoming strike and helps you contest pressure.
A timed blade interaction presented as a core part of the game's tactical swordplay.
The series' signature critical cut, tied to reading and timing an enemy attack.
A supernatural offensive option powered by the Oni Gauntlet.
The Gauntlet absorbs Genma souls and converts them into power for Musashi.
Continuous successful dodges fill the Reflex Dodge gauge; once full, it enables a powerful combo.
Parry, Deflect, or Dodge?
Use the Demo to learn the feedback attached to each response. Do not mash between them. Pick one answer, watch whether the enemy sequence ends or continues, and note your recovery position.
| Response | Practice goal | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Parry | Meet a readable strike while staying in range. | Pressing repeatedly before the attack cue resolves. |
| Deflect | Learn the timing feedback and whether the enemy chain continues. | Assuming one successful contact always creates a punish. |
| Dodge | Reposition while building the Reflex Dodge gauge through consecutive success. | Rolling away so far that the opening cannot be used. |
Oni Strength and Oni Agility
Capcom describes Oni Strength as a brute-force power that breaks enemy defenses and also destroys obstacles in exploration. Oni Agility provides explosive movement and can carry Musashi across certain walls to reach new areas. These abilities connect combat and traversal; they are not only damage buttons.
A three-pass Demo practice plan
- Pass one—survive cleanly. Learn spacing, camera behavior, and the visual rhythm of enemy strings.
- Pass two—hold your ground. Choose Parry or Deflect for familiar attacks and stop retreating by habit.
- Pass three—convert. After a clean defensive read, deliberately use Issen, a counter sequence, or an Oni action, then absorb souls when the field is safe.
What may change at launch
The Demo is a curated slice and exposes abilities that may arrive differently in the full progression. Exact damage, timing windows, enemy aggression, move availability, input options, and balance can change. This page will only add numerical data after the released build can be tested.
